Those aged 60 or better, living in the estuary region, can request this vital service themselves or have a family member, doctor, or visiting nurse make a request for them. A medical order is not required to receive Meals on Wheels.
You can elect to have meals delivered for a short time, such as when recovering from surgery, or a long term period of time, when standing and cooking becomes more difficult. Meals are delivered Monday through Friday. You can choose to have meals delivered between one – five days a week. For example, Sue Smith, has meals delivered every day while Stan Clark, receives a meal every Tuesday. The meals are delivered hot around noontime by dedicated volunteers. Frozen meals are also available for dinners and weekends. All meals are cooked at the Old Saybrook site and delivered from the following Café sites: Town Hall Annex Building in Clinton, Lymes' Senior Center in Old Lyme, and The Estuary Senior Center in Old Saybrook. A suggested donation of $3.00 per meal is requested at the end of the month, when a donation request is sent out to the client or to a designated person, for the client. Contact Laura at 860-388-1611, x217 for more information.
Meals are supported by Senior Resources with Title III funds available from the Older Americans Act.
