Welcome Micaela, our new Social Worker

Hello everyone, my name is Micaela. I am the new Social Worker here at the Estuary, and I could not be more excited. I graduated with my undergraduate degree from Worcester State University in Worcester Mass. and recently graduated with my master’s in social work from Rutgers University. I am a lifelong resident of Old Saybrook, with some deep family roots in town and a have loved every minute of growing up around these amazing towns that make up our shoreline community. In my free time, you can probably find me running after or having tea parties with my amazing 2-year-old niece, spending time with my friends and family, painting, or learning all I can about history!

With my master’s in social work, I have a great passion for mental health education, advocacy, and support. Due to the pandemic, many of us are facing new and sometimes uncomfortable negative emotions that we might not know how to cope with. If you find yourself feeling isolated, have a constant sense of fear or worry every day, trouble concentrating, emotional distress, lack of interest in activities you once enjoyed, have difficulty sleeping, persistent sadness, or just want to talk, I’m here for you. I can also help with resource referrals related to energy assistance, food insecurity, transportation, or anything related to daily living, I am happy to point you in the right direction. Please reach out and we can schedule an appointment in person or over the phone, whatever makes you feel most comfortable.

I am in the process of creating programs centered around mental health awareness & education, coping strategies using mindfulness practices, and a grief/bereavement group. For these next few weeks, I will be hard at work building a program that positively impacts our clients and members. Please don’t hesitate to reach out and say hello, I can’t wait to meet you all and assist in any way I can.
