Even after decades of offering a variety of services and programs to those aged 50 and better, who live along the shoreline, many are still confused about who we are and what we really do. Here are the answers to a few of the questions frequently asked:

The Estuary Center and Office (Old Saybrook) are open Monday ‐ Friday from 8:00 am ‐ 4 pm. The Thrift Shop is open Monday through Friday 10 am ‐ 3:45 pm and Saturdays from 9 am - 2 pm. Donations for the Thrift Shop are by appointment only. The Gym is currently open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am - 4:45 pm. .
We do not have membership fees or dues for our regular activities. Simply complete a registration form, and we will enter you into our database and then provide you with a scan card. Donations are graciously accepted in lieu of a set fee. Our gym does have fees to join and some of our class instructors charge a nominal fee as well.
Our mission is to serve anyone aged 50 or better. Some grants apply only to those aged 60 and over, but all are welcome to participate. Participants’ ages range from their 50’s to over 100!
We do receive some funding from Title III grants, private grants, and the towns we service. However, they do not cover the basic expenses it costs to provide the many vital services to the community. Therefore, we rely on donations and fundraisers to help raise the money needed.
The registration form is submitted as part of our grant requirements. Statistics are gathered to help prove the need for our funding. We do not sell or give out our database lists.
No. We have Café sites where lunch is served daily at noon. Meals are partially funded with Title III funds, therefore anyone aged 60+, a donation of $3.00 is suggested. For those under age 60, there is a cost of $14.00 for lunch.
No. Everyone who participates at our center is fully independent. We do not have caretakers or residents who live here or provide assistance.
The senior housing located at Sheffield Street, is independent and not associated with The Estuary. Our Welcome Desk has a list of contacts for area senior housing.
Medical Transportation is available through our EMOTS program. Please see our Support Services page for more information. Local transportation to the center is provided by the 9‐Town Transit. They can be reached at 860‐510‐0429, or see their website on our Links page.

EMOTS is an acronym for Estuary Medical Outpatient Transportation Service. Transportation is available to those aged 60 or better, living within the 9‐Town Estuary Region, going to medical appointments.

The Estuary also has a certified Medicare Specialist available every month to assist you with questions regarding Medicare, Medigap, and Medicare Advantage. Yes! The shop is open to all ages to shop and enjoy the great bargains! Credit cards are accepted.
Clothing for adults, coats, shoes, dishes, decorations, small furniture, craft items, puzzles, and more! We do NOT accept anything electronic, linens, or books. Please call ahead to confirm what items will be accepted. 860-388-1611 x219. Items should be in good condition and not broken.
